Gannon Buhr has officially added the biggest title in disc golf to his resume. At only 20 years old, the Iowa native claimed the 2025 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship in Nokia, Finland.
Dominating in Finland
The championship unfolded over five grueling rounds. Buhr entered the final day with a narrow lead and managed to hold on under intense pressure, even as other top players surged beneath him. One of the most dramatic moments came from hometown favorite Niklas Anttila, who ripped off a string of birdies to keep the crowd energized. Aaron Gossage also remained a serious threat, finishing just one stroke behind in one of the best performances of his career.
In the end, Buhr’s composure and consistency carried him across the finish line and into the history books.
A Career-Making Win
This marks Buhr’s first world championship and firmly establishes him among the sport’s elite. It also represents a milestone as he became the first world champion sponsored by Discmania. The event’s location in Finland highlights the global growth of disc golf, and Buhr’s win shows how the game is expanding beyond the United States.
Beyond the Trophy
Buhr already had major wins under his belt, including the European Open and the United States Disc Golf Championship, but this world title stands as the pinnacle of his young career. For him, this victory is not just about holding a new trophy, but about realizing a dream he has been working toward for years.
As he prepares for future international events, including the World Games in China, Buhr’s world title marks the beginning of what many expect will be an even greater era in disc golf.
